How Does A Water-Cooled Chiller System Work?

Chillers are essential systems in industries or commercial areas where the regulating temperature is mandatory. Based on the technique used to force the refrigerant around the system, chillers can be vapor absorption or compression. Furthermore, vapor compression chillers are classified into air or water chillers depending on the heat removal technique.

What is a Water-Cooled Chiller?

In a chiller operating on cooled water, heat is removed from the system to bring down the water temperature. The unit feeds the cold water to an operation cycle that requires it. In other words, this type of chiller shifts heat energy from a zone that requires temperature regulation to another zone.

What is the Working Principle of Water-Cooled Chillers?

Water-cooled chillers consist of the four main parts of a conventional chiller. These are evaporator, condenser, compressor, and expansion valve. The fundamental working of the chiller runs on the state and temperature change of the refrigerant throughout the chiller. We have mentioned briefly the steps involved in a water-cooled chiller.

·         Firstly, hot water from the production cycle goes inside the evaporator—the refrigerant changes from liquid to a gaseous state upon heat absorption from the water.

·         Due to the heat loss, the temperature of water drops. The colder water reaches the fan coils to provide cooler air to the required zones.

·         The refrigerant becomes from gaseous to liquid form in the condenser.

·         By this time, water gains temperature and reaches the cooling towers.

·         The heat loss of the water is maximum in the cooling towers, bringing down the temperature to the required value.

·        The expansion valve converts the refrigerant into a combination of liquid and gaseous states. Hence, this refrigerant goes back inside the process cycle, where hot water shall enter from another path.

The Closing Thoughts

Water-cooled chillers; are often preferred above air chillers for several reasons. Water-based chillers are more durable and stable. Also, they are less space-taking, and installation is more accessible. If you are searching for organizations providing chillers, you can consider Senho Machinery. They are one of the leading companies dealing with all types of chillers, including a water-cooled chiller. You can visit their official platform for further details.
