Screw Chiller – Chiller Installation and Usage

screw chiller can be a water-cooled or air-cooled type, ranging from 30 to 900 tons. High-quality equipment has screw compressors from respectable brands like Bitzer and Hanbell to ensure stable performance. Manufacturers guarantee reliability and efficiency with strict production control and outstanding system design, but proper installation is recommended to prevent damage and ensure proper function.

Installing your chiller

The installation process depends on whether you have an air-cooled or water-cooled screw chiller. If you recently purchased one or more screw chillers for your facility, refer to the manufacturer’s manual and consider hiring an experienced, qualified professional to install your new equipment. If you have experience or an in-house team of installers, you can ask the manufacturer for installation guidelines to save time and reduce labor costs.

Here are a few precautions before installing a chiller:

1. Pick an ideal location

Air-cooled screw chillers require an open space with enough ventilation, so avoid installing them in areas with walls or barriers within one meter of it. Otherwise, there will be problems with heat dissipation and airflow.

On the other hand, water-cooled screw chillers can be installed in areas with limited space. Ensure sufficient room for routine maintenance, as the heat eliminates via water to the cooling tower.

2. Ensure solid and level ground

Set up your industrial screw chiller on a level and solid 6mm concrete floor that can support its weight. If the floor isn’t flat or solid, the chiller can move out of place, and rough ground increases vibrations that can cause problems in the long run.

3. Verify the quality of the water in your facility

Apply a filter at the chiller’s inlet if you are unsure of the water quality in your business. That way, you can avoid issues with the chiller water circuit.

Using screw chillers

The screw chiller offers quiet operation, energy efficiency, compact installation, and low maintenance costs. Manufacturers provide a user-friendly design with comprehensive and intelligent controlling and monitoring, an intuitive operation interface, detailed alarm information, and RS-485 and PROFINET communication protocols for economical, streamlined controlling expansion.
